The world is on an aging trend! Along with the rapidly increasing population of 65 years old and above, the prevalence of neurodegenerative diseases is high. As the most common neurodegenerative disease, Alzheimer’s Disease (AD) has become a great burden to our modern society both economically and psychosocially. Tremendous research has been performed in different fields to advance our understanding of AD. New diagnosis methods and therapeutic interventions are evolving with an unseen speed. For the diagnosis of AD, it relied mainly on clinical symptoms and complex neuropsychological assessments, which are time-consuming and costly. At the same time, the therapeutic interventions toward AD are very limited, and the outcomes are far from what has been expected from all stakeholders. It is desirable to have sensitive and reliable biomarkers which can be used to diagnose, follow the outcomes of therapeutic interventions, or help with the prognosis of AD. Advances in imaging technologies may make it possible to detect some trivial changes in either structural, functional, or both perspectives in the pathophysiological process of AD. New approaches of intervention have been tested to treat AD especially toward its earlier stage: mild cognitive impairment. You are invited to submit your latest findings to this special issue for advancing the AD research.
